    Additional parts required for a fully functioning system

    To use the hub as a complete 2×6 Sachs Orbit system, the bicycle must be equipped with the other control and shifting components.

    The following are required for the hub's internal 2-speed gears:

    • Sachs Orbit indicator/shifter chain
    • Sachs 0116 101 001 – Chain guide nut for M10×1
    • Sachs 0570 117 000 – Fixing sleeve with cable clamp
    • Shift cable and housing
    • A suitable left shifter for the Orbit hub's 2-speed function

    Sachs' original spare parts list specifically identifies 0187 102 000, 0116 101 001 and 0570 117 000 as the relevant parts for the hub's gear shifting.

    The following are also required for the six external gears:

    •  Sachs Commander Type: C 6200 6-speed rear derailleur
    • Right shifter
    • Shift cable and housing
    • Chain 1/2 x 3/32"

    For a period-correct Sachs system, Orbit was developed alongside the Sachs-Huret Commander system. Sachs documentation lists, among other things, the Commander C 6200 as a 6-speed rear derailleur and the MA 85.6 E as the left shifter for the Orbit hub.

    However, it is possible to build the system with other compatible 6-speed components, as long as the shifter, rear derailleur and sprocket spacing match.

Raro sistema NOS Sachs Orbit di Fichtel & Sachs. Orbit era una soluzione avanzata degli anni '80, in cui un cambio epicicloidale interno a 2 rapporti nel mozzo posteriore era combinato con un normale deragliatore posteriore e una ruota libera a 6 velocità.

Il risultato sono 12 combinazioni di rapporti con una sola corona anteriore.

Sachs Orbit è stato sviluppato come alternativa alla tradizionale doppia corona. Il cambio interno al mozzo offre un rapporto aggiuntivo molto basso, mentre i sei rapporti esterni sono gestiti da un normale deragliatore posteriore.

Come funziona Sachs Orbit

Il mozzo ha due rapporti interni:

H – High: rapporto diretto 1:1 L – Low: 1:0,74, equivalente a una riduzione di circa il 26%

Il passaggio tra i due rapporti interni avviene tramite la catena indicatrice/cambio inclusa. Una delle caratteristiche intelligenti del sistema Orbit è che il cambio al mozzo può essere azionato anche quando la bicicletta è ferma.

I sei rapporti esterni si cambiano con il deragliatore posteriore:

13 – 15 – 17 – 20 – 24 – 28T

Si ottengono 6 × 2 = 12 combinazioni di rapporti.

Con una corona anteriore da 48 denti, per esempio, il rapporto Low del mozzo equivale all'incirca a una corona anteriore da 35,5 denti, offrendo un rapporto molto più basso per le salite e la pedalata sotto sforzo, senza usare un deragliatore anteriore.

Il sistema Orbit fu introdotto intorno al 1981 ed è stata una delle prime soluzioni a combinare un cambio interno al mozzo con un deragliatore posteriore esterno. La documentazione Sachs sul sistema risale ai primi anni '80.
